Build and manage your HugoFox business website

Getting your organisation online with HugoFox is quick, cost-effective and hassle-free. This guide walks you through the entire journey—from signing up to keeping your site compliant—so you can focus on serving customers and community.

1. Create your HugoFox account

Click Build Your Website in the top-right corner of hugofox.com. Select Business when prompted, then enter your email address (twice), a secure password and—if you have one—a referral code. Tick the box to accept our terms, hit Create Account, and look out for the Activate Account button in your inbox. A follow-up email confirms you’re ready to log in.

2. Complete your business profile

Head straight to Profile after logging in. Add your business name, town or village, full address and (if you already own one) your existing domain. Next, enter a main contact name, phone number(s) and email so visitors can reach you.

Upload a logo and header image to personalise the template—placeholders stay in place until you do. Finally, choose whether you’d like to receive occasional HugoFox news and offers.

3. Build your homepage and pages

On the Homepage tab, type a short welcome in the text box, then pick any combination of content blocks—text, gallery, quote, video, map and more—to bring your story to life.

Create further pages via Content > New Page; the built-in editor lets you drag, drop and reorder sections without touching code. You’ll also find quick links for posting News, Events, Jobs and Offers so the site stays dynamic.

4. Set up payments after your free trial

Every new business site enjoys a 30-day free trial. Before day 30, choose a plan:

  1. Monthly credit card

  2. Monthly Direct Debit

  3. Annual Direct Debit (best value)

You only need the sort code and account number printed on any bank statement to authorise a Direct Debit—no card required.

Important: Activate a payment option before the trial ends to avoid your site automatically pausing.

5. Publish your site

Happy with your pages? Click Activate Website on the Contents screen, then confirm. Your HugoFox domain goes live immediately; any custom domain you’ve linked will point to it within 24 hours.

6. Ongoing updates and content types

Log in anytime to tweak text, swap images or add new sections. News, Events, Jobs and Offers posts keep content fresh and help you rank higher on search engines. You can also manage compliance settings and download visitor analytics from the dashboard.

7. Upload documents the right way

Policies such as GDPR, Data Protection or Accessibility are best uploaded as PDF or Word files via the Attach block—either publicly or inside a members-only area. This approach keeps file sizes small, pages fast and access controlled.

8. Post news and events that engage

News

  • Open Dashboard > News > Add News.

  • Use clear, short titles and concise body text.

  • Add keywords for better Google visibility.

Events

  • Go to Dashboard > Events > Add Event.

  • Perfect for sales, public open days or private member meetings.

  • Posts auto-expire after the event date, keeping pages tidy.

  • For recurring events, hit Clone under an existing listing to save time.

9. Stay compliant with accessibility and data rules

We handle the technical side—responsive templates, automated cookie banners and email-alert consent—but some areas remain yours:

  • Accessibility – add alt text to images and ensure document PDFs are tagged correctly. Full guidance lives in our Accessibility [Accessibility article].

  • Data – never publish personal data (e.g. email lists) in news posts or documents.

  • Privacy – review and update your privacy notice regularly.

Tip: The automated cookie and mailing systems mean your site starts off GDPR-compliant from day one.
