Create and run a club or not-for-profit website on HugoFox

Launching a website for your charity, club or community group should feel exciting—not intimidating. HugoFox keeps the process simple so you can focus on serving your members and visitors.

1 Create your account

  1. Select Build Your Website in the top-right corner of HugoFox.com.

  2. Choose Club / Not for Profit when prompted.

  3. Enter your email address, create a password and tick the Terms & Conditions box. (If you have a referral code, add it here—otherwise leave blank.)

  4. Click Create Account. You’ll receive an email titled Activate Account. Follow the link, then watch for a second email confirming activation.

Tip: You get a full 30-day free trial before any payment is required.

2 Build your profile

Your profile tells visitors—and search engines—who you are.

  • Give the full name and location of your organisation, along with an existing domain if you already own one.

  • Provide a complete postal address plus any extra directions that help people find you.

  • Add a primary and (optional) secondary contact with phone and email details.

  • Upload a logo and header image. Missing artwork? HugoFox shows tidy placeholders until you’re ready.

  • Decide whether to receive occasional HugoFox product updates by email.

Important: Clear, consistent contact information boosts local search results.

3 Design your homepage

Your homepage is created in the built-in editor.

  1. Type an introductory welcome message in the main text box.

  2. Use content blocks below the editor—text, images, galleries, buttons and more—to build engaging sections.

  3. Save your work. You can return at any time to rearrange blocks with simple drag-and-drop controls.

Note: Keep paragraphs short and use headings for clarity.

4 Publish news and events

News

  • From the Dashboard choose NewsAdd News.

  • Write a concise headline and summary, then add the full text.

  • Insert keywords to improve visibility on search engines.

  • Decide how long the post should stay live—remove or archive it with one click.

Events

  • Go to EventsAdd Event.

  • Enter the title, date, time and description.

  • Events automatically disappear after they end, keeping your site fresh.

  • For recurring activities click Clone under any event, tweak the date and publish in seconds.

Tip: Use News for announcements and public notices; Events for time-specific gatherings—this separation helps visitors find information faster.

5 Upload and organise documents

Uploading

  • Choose PDF or Word format for policies, minutes and booking terms—these files display reliably on all devices.

  • Drag files into any page, or attach them in the Members Area to restrict access.

Organising

  • Name files clearly: “AGM-Minutes-Mar-2025.pdf” beats “doc1.pdf”.

  • Archive outdated versions so the latest file is always prominent.

  • Create dedicated pages or sub-pages for large collections—e.g. Fixtures, Competition Results, Archived Documents.

6 Manage membership forms

Want an online sign-up sheet? Add a Form content block at the bottom of any page, then drag fields into place (see How to build a form). Include tick-boxes for data-protection consent and set notification emails so you never miss an application.

7 Stay compliant with regulations

Accessibility – HugoFox maintains core accessibility standards, but you’re responsible for content you upload. Follow the checklist in our Accessibility article to keep documents and images compliant.
Data & privacy – Never publish personal data in news posts or downloadable files unless you have permission. Keep privacy notices current.
GDPR – HugoFox’s cookie banner and email-alert systems are automatic, so your site starts off GDPR-friendly.

Important: Review compliance at least twice a year; regulations and best practice evolve.

8 Activate and maintain your site

Payment – During your 30-day trial add billing details: monthly card, monthly Direct Debit or annual Direct Debit. No card? Direct Debit only needs the account number and sort code from any statement.
Go live – On the Contents page click Activate WebsiteConfirm. Congratulations, your site is public!
Ongoing management – Log in any time to edit pages, post news, add events, list jobs or offers and keep compliance documents up to date.

Conclusion

Running a vibrant online home for your club or charity is quick, secure and cost-free for 30 days—so you can concentrate on your community, not code.
