Set up Google Analytics for your HugoFox site
Google Analytics gives you powerful, real-time insight into who visits your HugoFox website and what they do once they arrive. Connecting the two services takes only a few minutes and will not affect how your site looks or performs.
1. Create or sign in to a Google account
If you already use Gmail, YouTube or any other Google product, you can log straight in. Otherwise, click this link and create a free account – you only need an email address and password.
Tip: Use a shared council or club email (not a personal one) so that future committee members can access Analytics without starting again.
2. Set up a Google Analytics account
Visit click this link and choose Start measuring.
Give the account a clear name, such as Oakford Parish Council.
Decide which data-sharing options suit your organisation – most users keep the defaults.
Select Next to continue.
Important: The account level holds everything beneath it, so choose a name that will still make sense if you add more websites in future.
3. Create a property for your site
A property is where Analytics stores reports for a single website or app.
Enter a property name – usually your site name, for example oakford-pc.gov.uk.
Set the reporting time-zone to (UTC+00:00) London and the currency to GBP – £.
Click Next and answer the short questionnaire about industry and size.
These details help Google tailor your dashboard but do not affect tracking.
4. Add your data stream
Choose Web because HugoFox sites are browser-based. Then:
Enter your full site address, including https://.
Give the stream a label (e.g. Oakford website).
Select Create stream.
Analytics now displays a panel called Web stream details.
5. Find and copy the Measurement ID
In the right-hand column you will see a code beginning with G- (for example G-A1B2C3D4E5). This is your Measurement ID.
Click the copy icon to store it on your clipboard.
Leave this browser tab open – you may need to come back to it later.
Note: Ignore the long JavaScript snippet beneath Tagging instructions; HugoFox only needs the Measurement ID.
6. Add the ID to HugoFox
Log into your HugoFox dashboard and open My Account → Google Analytics (internal link).
Paste the Measurement ID into the field provided and press Save.
That’s it – the tracking code is now injected into every page automatically, with no manual editing required.
7. Check your tracking is working
Return to the Analytics tab, choose Reports → Realtime and then visit your website in a new browser window (or on your phone). Within a few seconds you should see at least one active user – you!
If nothing appears after two or three minutes:
Confirm the Measurement ID in HugoFox matches the one shown in Google Analytics.
Make sure you saved your changes.
Clear your browser cache or try a private/incognito window.
Tip: Live traffic usually shows within 30 seconds, so this is the quickest way to confirm everything is connected.
8. (Optional) Connect Search Console
Linking Google Analytics with Search Console brings extra SEO data – the keywords visitors used to find you, click-through rate from search results, and more.
In Analytics, go to Admin → Product Links → Search Console links → Link.
Follow the prompts to select your site and approve access.
Once approved, you’ll see Search Console appear under Reports → Acquisition.
For website statistics gathered by HugoFox itself, open Statistics in your dashboard (internal link).
Conclusion
Adding Google Analytics is the fastest way to understand your audience and measure the impact of every notice, news story and event you post. Connecting it to HugoFox takes just a couple of clicks – and you can switch it off again at any time.
