Understand your website statistics

Your HugoFox site includes a built-in statistics page that transforms raw numbers into clear, actionable insights. In just a few clicks you can track visitors, content totals and—on higher tiers—explore hourly trends and post-level performance.

1. Opening your statistics dashboard

  1. Sign in to HugoFox and open Dashboard (Dashboard) in the left-hand menu.

  2. Select Statistics (Statistics).
Every figure updates the moment you reload the page, so you are always looking at live data.

2. Monthly visits and views

The top panel shows headline traffic for each calendar month:

  • Visitors – the number of people who accessed your site.

  • Views – the total pages those visitors loaded.
Watching these trends helps you spot seasonal peaks, evaluate marketing campaigns and plan future content.

3. Live versus not-live pages

A dedicated panel tracks your content inventory:

  • Live pages – published and visible to the public.

  • Not-live pages – drafts or retired items awaiting review or archiving.
A combined total lets you see at a glance whether your website is growing, staying steady or being tidied up.

5. Email alert sign-ups

Visitors can subscribe to alerts for news, events, offers, jobs and—on parish council sites—planning applications. The statistics page reports only confirmed subscribers (people who clicked the verification link), giving you a reliable measure of your most engaged audience. Use this insight to schedule posts at times that encourage further sign-ups.

6. Bronze vs Silver/Gold statistics

All plans include monthly visitor and view totals, live/not-live counts and mobile-usage percentages.

  • Bronze – ideal for a simple presence: monthly visitors, views and basic content figures.

  • Silver and Gold – everything in Bronze plus:

    • Hour-by-hour visits and views for any date range

    • Most-popular pages for the current month and the past seven days

    • Hour-by-hour breakdowns for each month in your archive

    • Exact statistics for every individual news, event, job or offer post

Tip: Upgrading does not reset your data; historical figures remain available so you can compare performance before and after the switch.

7. Post-level statistics in Silver/Gold

When editing a news, event, job or offer on a Silver or Gold site you will see a Statistics button beside Renew, Clone, Delete and Preview. Click it to view:

  • Total views since publication

  • Unique visitors

  • A seven-day trend graph showing interest over time
If a job ad outperforms expectations, consider re-using the headline or layout. If an event post sees low engagement, try adding an image or sharing it on social media.

8. Planning application stats for parish councils

Parish councils on Silver or Gold plans receive an automatic feed showing:

  • Applications posted in the last week, month and year

  • Status totals: pending, granted, refused, appealed, withdrawn and unknown
Because the feed updates in real time, councillors can refresh the page moments before a meeting and trust the numbers are current.

9. Custom domains and HugoFox.com traffic

If you have connected a custom domain (for example yourparish.org.uk) it appears in your traffic graphs alongside HugoFox.com.

  • The custom-domain line shows visits that arrive directly on your branded address.

  • The HugoFox.com line records visits and views generated by the HugoFox automated SEO system promoting your site across our network and search engines.
By viewing both sources separately you can measure the extra exposure our platform brings beyond your own promotion efforts.

10. Mobile versus desktop visitors

Every customer receives a percentage breakdown of visitors using mobile phones. If the mobile figure is high, consider shorter headlines, larger tap-targets and image sizes optimised for small screens. Conversely, a desktop-heavy audience may appreciate long-form articles and wider tables.

Conclusion

Clear, accurate statistics show who visits your HugoFox website and what they read, guiding smarter updates for your community.
