Improve your website SEO with HugoFox

HugoFox automatically gives every site a healthy search-engine boost, but you can do a few simple things to climb even higher. This guide walks you through the built-in tools—as well as quick wins you can apply right now—without touching a single line of code.

1. How automatic SEO works on HugoFox

Every HugoFox website, regardless of plan, benefits from built-in search-engine optimisation. Behind the scenes our platform structures your pages so Google, Bing and others can understand the content and rank it appropriately. The result? Extra traffic labelled “HugoFox.com” in your site statistics (dashboard) shows exactly how many additional visits our SEO delivers.
Tip: Keep publishing fresh content—news articles, upcoming events or club updates—because search engines favour regularly updated websites.

2. Basic versus full SEO packages

  • Bronze and Silver (Basic SEO). Your metadata is auto-generated and updated in real time. It’s a hands-off solution that already meets best-practice guidelines.

  • Gold (Full SEO). Enjoy everything in Basic, plus deeper keyword analysis, richer snippets and priority indexing. Gold customers can also book a one-to-one call with our technical team to review their site and let us implement tweaks for you.
Important: There’s no downgrade in visibility when you move between plans—upgrading simply unlocks more advanced optimisation and personalised support.

3. Finding your SEO statistics in the dashboard

  1. Sign in and open Dashboard.

  2. Click Statistics then Visits by source.

  3. Look for the “HugoFox.com” row—that figure shows visits earned purely through our SEO features.
If the number has risen since last month, your recent posts are doing their job.

4. Fine-tuning page metadata

In the Page Builder each page includes a Meta Data button (page builder). By default we fill in these fields using your account name and the page title, but you can sharpen the wording:

  • Title tag – maximum 64 characters. Focus on the main keyword and your location, e.g. “Kingsley Parish Council – Hampshire”.

  • Meta description – maximum 155 characters. Summarise the page and include a call-to-action, e.g. “Stay up to date with Kingsley Parish Council meetings, agendas and community news.”
Note: Avoid duplicating the same title or description across multiple pages—unique metadata helps search engines decide which page to show.

5. Writing image captions that rank

Whenever you add an image you’ll see the Caption field (image uploader). Captions appear under the picture and act as extra context for both readers and search engines.

  • Explain what the photo shows, including place names or event titles (“Volunteers planting oak saplings at St Mary’s Green, April 2025”).

  • Keep it under 140 characters.

  • If the image promotes an upcoming event, mention the event date.
Tip: Always choose high-quality, well-lit images; blurry pictures hurt credibility and user engagement, which indirectly affects SEO.

6. Using keywords and tags on news, events, jobs and offers

When you create a new article you can add up to six keywords/tags (article creator). Effective tags:

  • Match phrases people actually search (“summer fete”, “yoga class”).

  • Combine location with activity (“Thatcham litter pick”).

  • Avoid repetition—each tag should add something new.
Why it helps: Tags group related content together, creating topic clusters that search engines love, and they power HugoFox’s on-site search so local visitors find you faster.

7. Quick wins for on-page SEO

  • Use clear, descriptive headings (H2/H3) rather than “Click here” or “Read more”.

  • Keep sentences under 20 words where possible—readability is a ranking factor.

  • Link to other relevant pages on your site (internal links) so search engines can crawl everything.

  • Compress large images before uploading to keep page load times under three seconds.

  • Ensure each page targets a single main topic instead of covering everything at once.

8. When to ask our technical team for extra help

Gold customers can schedule a call (support booking) for a personalised SEO audit. We’ll:

  1. Analyse your current rankings and keyword opportunities.

  2. Suggest improvements to metadata, headings and content structure.

  3. Implement agreed changes directly on your site—no extra charge.
If you’re on Bronze or Silver and need deeper optimisation, upgrading to Gold is the fastest route to hands-on assistance.

Conclusion

With a few small tweaks—unique metadata, descriptive captions and well-chosen tags—you can amplify the automatic SEO HugoFox already provides and attract even more visitors.
