Create and manage news posts

Keeping your website fresh with local updates helps residents, supporters and customers stay engaged. In HugoFox, the News tool lets you draft, schedule, publish and track stories in just a few clicks. At a glance

1 Access your News hub

You’ll find News in the left‑hand menu of your HugoFox dashboard (see Dashboard overview). The page lists every story you’ve created, so you can spot what’s live, queued or still in draft at a glance. Action icons sit to the right of each headline—Edit, Clone, Delete and Preview—so managing content takes one click.

2 Understand post statuses

Each article carries one of four statuses:

  1. Active – visible on your website right now.

  2. On hold – set to go live on a future date.

  3. Expired – removed from the website and not visible.

  4. Drafts – not visible on the website and in progress.

Tip: Toggle between views using the filters at the top of the list to focus on drafts or upcoming posts.

3 Add a new News post

Select Add news to open the editor. Complete these mandatory fields:

  1. Title – aim for 6–10 words.

  2. Article text – paste or type content directly; basic formatting tools are built in.

  3. Keywords – help search engines surface your post.

  4. Location – clarify where the story matters, e.g. “Thatcham Parish”.

Important: Keep paragraphs short and use sub‑headings or bulleted lists to improve readability on mobiles.

4 Upload images and captions

Click Upload image to drag‑and‑drop a JPG or PNG up to 5 MB. You can add as many images as you like; HugoFox will optimise them automatically. Under each picture you’ll see:

  • Caption – optional; describe the image or credit the photographer.

Images appear above the article by default. Re‑order them using the arrow icons if you’re adding a gallery.

5 Set author details

The Author panel lets you:

  • Enter the writer’s Name.

  • Upload a Thumbnail photo (ideal size 200 × 200 px).

  • Add a short Bio (80–100 words) and contact details.

If you leave these fields blank the post will default to your site’s organisation name, keeping things tidy for anonymous pieces.

6 Schedule or publish immediately

At the foot of the editor you’ll see two check‑boxes:

  • Go live now – tick to publish straight away.

  • Schedule post – pick a date and time in the future; the status changes to On hold until that moment.

Note: You can edit or delete a scheduled post any time before it publishes. To pause an already active story, set its status to On hold and hit Save.

7 Monitor post performance

Silver and Gold customers unlock the Statistics tab. Here you’ll see how many views and users each News article receives each day.

Use these insights to fine‑tune headlines, imagery and publishing times for better engagement (see Using site statistics).

Conclusion

Publishing timely, well‑formatted news keeps your community informed and boosts search visibility—and HugoFox makes the whole process effortless.
